How to Choose a Paver Contractor in South Florida
· By Leonardo Ferreira

A paver job looks simple from the street, but most of the quality is hidden underneath. Two driveways can look the same on day one and very different two years later. Choosing the right contractor is the best way to protect your investment.
Look at real work
Ask for photos of finished projects, ideally similar to yours. Real photos of driveways, pool decks and patios in your area show the contractor's style and attention to detail, especially on cuts, borders and curves.
Ask about the base
Ask how deep they excavate, what base material they use and how it is compacted. A contractor who can explain this clearly understands what keeps pavers level in sandy Florida soil.
Ask about drainage
Where will the water go after a summer storm? A good plan shows the slope away from the house and the pool and toward the street or a drain.
Get the scope in writing
A clear estimate lists removal of the old surface, excavation, base, paver product and thickness, pattern, edge restraint, joint sand and cleanup. Comparing quotes is only fair when they describe the same work.
Licensing, insurance and permits
Ask for the contractor's license and insurance information and check it with the appropriate agency for your area. Ask who handles permits and HOA paperwork when they are required.
Communication
Notice how fast and how clearly the company answers you before you hire them. Good communication during the estimate is usually a sign of good communication during the job.
Red flags
A price far below everyone else with no explanation of the base.
Pressure to sign the same day.
No photos of real work.
Vague answers about drainage and edges.
